1. What is a Coil Transfer Trolley?

The DWP series is an upgraded version of a standard electric flatbed cart, specifically designed for transporting steel coils, aluminum coils, and other coil-shaped materials.

Structural Components: Frame, drive system, wheels, power supply, electrical control system, and operating controls.

 

Types:

Coil transfer trolleys on the market generally fall into two main categories: rail-guided models and rail-less electric models.

Rail-guided transfer trolleys require steel rails to be installed on the ground. They operate along fixed routes, moving back and forth. These are ideal for factories with fixed layouts and production lines that require frequent and repetitive transport operations.

Rail-less models do not require rails. Instead, they run on rubber wheels directly on concrete floors. Many are equipped with four-wheel steering and 360-degree on-the-spot turning, allowing them to operate flexibly in factory environments with varying aisle widths.

A key design feature is the V-shaped cradle platform, which is the main difference compared with standard electric flatbed carts. This V-groove structure securely holds cylindrical steel coils, effectively preventing slipping or tipping during transport. This is one of the key reasons why this type of equipment is widely used in the steel industry.

Load capacity can be customized from 5 tons up to several hundred tons, making it suitable for a wide range of applications-from small steel processing workshops to large steel manufacturing plants.

STEEL COIL TRANSFER CART

Many steel plant managers often ask: since forklifts and overhead cranes have been used for decades, is it really necessary to invest in coil transfer trolleys?

From real operational experience, in most steel industry scenarios, this equipment offers excellent practicality and strong adaptability.

Let's first look at internal workshop transport-such as cold rolling, galvanizing, and cut-to-length lines-where coils are moved from storage to production stations. These workshops are often compact, with narrow aisles.

When forklifts lift steel coils, the center of gravity is high, making them unstable during turning, especially in confined spaces. Overhead cranes, on the other hand, are limited to fixed lifting zones and cannot handle inter-workshop transportation.

In contrast, coil transfer trolleys have a low-profile design and a low center of gravity. Combined with the V-shaped cradle, they can easily move through narrow aisles and stop precisely at loading or feeding positions, eliminating the need for secondary handling. This alone can significantly reduce production downtime caused by material waiting.

In steel warehouses, where large quantities of coils are stored and frequently repositioned, forklifts combined with manual labor are inefficient. Multiple workers are often required for strapping and positioning, and surface damage to coils is common. Even minor scratches may downgrade material quality, resulting in long-term losses.

By using electric coil transfer trolleys, a single operator can complete the entire handling process via remote control or onboard operation. This greatly reduces coil damage and scrap rates, resulting in substantial hidden cost savings.

ELECTRIC TRANSFER CART FOR HANDLING 10 TON STEEL COILS

From both cost and safety perspectives, these transfer carts are a highly effective solution for steel mills aiming to improve efficiency.

Traditional handling methods-typically involving forklifts and multiple operators-result in continuous labor, fuel, and maintenance costs. In contrast, lithium battery-powered coil transfer trolleys consume very little energy and can operate continuously for five to six shifts on a single charge. Maintenance is minimal, mainly limited to wheels and consumable parts, and the equipment typically has a service life of up to 10 years, making it a long-term cost-effective investment.

In terms of safety, steel coil handling always carries risks such as coil slipping or crushing injuries. These transfer carts are equipped with anti-collision sensors, emergency stop systems, and overload protection. They automatically slow down or stop when obstacles or personnel are detected, significantly improving workplace safety.


Of course, not every steel-related business requires this equipment. For small traders with low handling frequency, forklifts may be sufficient.

However, for enterprises engaged in large-scale steel processing or continuous production, coil transfer trolleys are an essential piece of equipment.
