
Working Principle of Omni-directional Steering Wheel Steering System
The steering wheel drive unit integrates driving, braking and steering functions into one independent wheel module. It is the core walking and steering execution part of battery-powered electric flat cars, trackless AGV flat cars and omnidirectional transport vehicles.
1. Basic Structure Composition
Drive motor: Provides forward and reverse power for the flat car to move horizontally.
Steering servo motor: Special motor responsible for precise angle rotation of the wheel itself.
Reducer mechanism: Reduces speed and increases torque, making steering stable and accurate without shaking.
Steering rotation support: Large bearing structure, supports 360° continuous rotation of the entire wheel assembly.
Wheel hub & rubber tire: Load-bearing and ground contact, ensure friction and load capacity.
Central control PLC system: Receives path signals, calculates real-time steering angle and speed instructions.
2. Detailed Steering Working Principle
The upper control system plans the driving path of the electric flat car in advance, and sends digital angle and speed signals to the steering servo motor.
After receiving the instruction, the steering servo motor drives the gear reducer to rotate the entire steering wheel assembly horizontally around the central vertical axis.
The steering wheel changes its walking direction synchronously with the rotation angle of the servo mechanism, realizing arbitrary angle steering from 0° to 360°.
At the same time, the drive motor outputs forward or reverse torque to push the flat car to move forward, backward, transverse and diagonal.
Multiple steering wheels work cooperatively and synchronously under PLC linkage control. By adjusting the deflection angle of each wheel separately, the vehicle realizes differential steering, in-situ rotation, transverse walking, oblique walking and flexible small-radius turning.
Angle encoder feeds back real wheel posture data back to the controller in real time. The system automatically corrects deviation to ensure high-precision path operation and avoid deviation and deviation.

3. Motion Characteristics & Mechanical Logic
Independent steering wheel module achieves separation of driving direction and walking direction.
Servo closed-loop control ensures steering angle accuracy, fast response and no accumulated error.
Unlike traditional automobile Ackermann steering, steering wheel type does not rely on tie rods and mechanical linkage. It realizes flexible omnidirectional movement through electrical coordinated control.
When the flat car turns, each steering wheel independently adjusts deflection angle to keep the whole vehicle running smoothly, with small turning radius and no ground extrusion damage.

Low mechanical wear, stable load bearing, frequent start and stop resistance, suitable for heavy-duty electric flat cars in workshops, steel coil transportation, warehouse handling and precise positioning handling scenarios.
