Cable Drag Chain & Cable Reel Powered Transfer Cart Heavy Duty Rail Electric Flat Car for Factory Mold Steel Coil Transport

Cable-powered rail transfer carts are heavy-duty industrial material handling vehicles running on fixed steel rails, directly driven by 380V/400V AC industrial power without built-in batteries. They adopt two mainstream cable power supply structures: cable drag chain (e-chain) and cable reel / cable drum, tailored for different travel distances and workshop layouts.

Designed for transporting heavy loads (1–1000 tons), they move steel coils, casting molds, large machinery, steel plates, transformers and ship components between production lines, warehouses and processing workshops. Both models support wired pendant control, wireless remote control and variable frequency speed regulation for smooth start-stop operation.

1.Cable Drag Chain Powered Transfer Cart (Short-Distance Type)
Working Principle
An enclosed metal cable drag chain (energy chain) is installed in a pre-buried cable groove between two rails. The power cable is fully wrapped inside the drag chain. As the cart travels back and forth, the flexible chain stretches and retracts synchronously to guide and protect cables, continuously transmitting AC power to the drive motor.
Core Parameters & Applicable Scenarios
Max reliable travel distance: ≤15m
Rail requirement: A dedicated cable trough needs to be reserved between rails during civil construction
Key Advantages
Complete cable protection: Avoid cable trampling, extrusion, twisting and abrasion; greatly extend cable service life
Clean workshop layout: No loose cables scattered on the ground, low tripping hazard
Low noise, stable running, neat internal wiring layout
Simple daily maintenance; only regular drag chain lubrication and surface dust cleaning required
Disadvantages
Extra civil engineering cost for cable grooves; cannot adapt to long-distance transportation over 50m

2.Cable Reel (Cable Drum) Powered Transfer Cart (Medium-Long Distance Type)
Working Principle
A self-winding cable reel is mounted on the front/rear bottom of the cart, connected to an external ground power box via a thick rubber power cable.
Motorized level-wind reel: Driven by auxiliary motor for constant cable tension
When the cart moves forward, the reel unwinds cables evenly; when returning, it winds cables tightly to maintain stable power supply to the traction motor.
Core Parameters & Applicable Scenarios
Motorized reel: Travel distance 50–200m, for long fixed routes
No pre-buried cable groove required; compatible with existing standard rails
Key Advantages
Wide travel range, no limit of underground trough construction
24/7 non-stop operation without battery charging downtime, higher workshop throughput
Adaptable to harsh environments: high temperature, dust, foundry and painting workshops
Lower long-term operating cost: eliminate periodic battery replacement expense (batteries need replacement every 2–3 years)
High starting torque AC motor, stable carrying for ultra-heavy loads above 100 tons
Disadvantages
Loose cables on the ground may cause minor trampling risks; reel mechanism needs regular tension inspection
