In modern industrial production, industrial transfer carts are important and widely used material handling equipment. Their steering method directly affects the efficiency and safety of the entire transfer operation. However, through communication with customers, we have found that many are still unfamiliar with common steering methods.
Therefore, today we would like to share three common steering methods, hoping they will be helpful to our customers.
In the field of material handling, common steering methods include differential steering, hydraulic steering, and steering wheel steering. Below, we will share their working principles, characteristics, and applicable scenarios to provide you with a reference for your purchase.
Principle: This is mainly achieved by adjusting the speed difference between the two drive wheels of the transfer cart. Its structure is similar to the differential in a traditional small-sized transfer cart. This steering method does not require a complex mechanism; the steering action is accomplished by the speed difference between the two drive wheels.
Main Advantages:
-Easy Maintenance: The steering structure is simple, usually consisting of a motor, reducer, and differential. The overall manufacturing process is straightforward, and maintenance costs are relatively low.
-Flexible Steering: It has a small turning radius and can even rotate 360°. This is particularly beneficial in space-constrained transport operations.
-Safe and Reliable: Due to its simple system structure, electric transfer carts using this steering method have a low failure rate, ensuring a long service life.

Disadvantages:
Not Suitable for Heavy-Duty Scenarios: Typically, this steering method is used for projects under 15 tons. For projects over 15 tons, hydraulic steering is preferred for greater stability.
Not Suitable for Precision Transport: This method does not offer precise steering, making it less suitable for transport scenarios requiring high precision.
Application Scenarios: This method is generally used in light material transport with limited space, frequent direction changes, and the need for on-the-spot turning, such as cargo transfer in warehouses, logistics, and regular workshops.
Principle: This system mainly consists of key components such as a hydraulic pump and hydraulic cylinders. The hydraulic pump provides power to drive the steering mechanism, while the steering wheel guides the cart's turn under hydraulic pressure.
Key Advantages:
-High Load Capacity: The powerful hydraulic steering system allows precise control even under heavy loads. It can transport objects weighing hundreds of tons.
-Stable Operation: The hydraulic system ensures smooth steering with no noticeable jerking. Even on complex or uneven surfaces, the heavy-duty transfer cart operates safely and smoothly.
-Easy Operation: Typically controlled by a remote control or operating handle, it is easy to use and requires no complex procedures, with minimal road condition requirements.

Disadvantages:
High Maintenance Costs: The system contains several heavy components, such as hydraulic pumps and cylinders, resulting in a more complex structure. Maintenance can be costly and difficult in the event of a malfunction.
Slow Response Speed: Compared to differential steering, its response speed is slower, making it unsuitable for operations requiring rapid steering.
Application Scenarios: This steering method is best suited for transporting heavy materials and industries requiring high stability and precision, such as the transport of precision grinding tools.

Principle: This device uses an integrated drive system, where independently controlled steering motors drive the steering wheel and precisely control the angle of the motors to achieve various steering modes.
Main Advantages:
-Flexible Steering: The cart can move in all directions, rotate 360° on the spot, and turn horizontally.
-Precise Control: The advanced control system allows precise control of each steering wheel's angle.
-High Level of Intelligence: Our automated AGV transport vehicle uses this steering method, enabling unmanned operation. It can also be integrated with other automated equipment for intelligent autonomous material transportation.

Disadvantages:
High Maintenance Costs: The complex control system, along with independent drive and steering motors, results in higher production and maintenance costs.
High Ground Requirements: It is not suitable for uneven, excessively soft, or sunken road surfaces, as these will affect its steering ability and stability.
Application Scenarios: This method is ideal for highly automated workshops or transportation scenarios requiring high precision and flexibility, such as modern warehousing operations. It can also be integrated with other management systems to optimize operations.

We are always at your service when you need
In conclusion, each steering method has its unique advantages and specific applications. When selecting an electric transfer cart, it is important to consider various factors based on your actual transportation needs to ensure the efficiency, safety, and reliability of your material handling operations.
